Once VS2010 was restarted the issues with the designer disappeared. When this happens, you must shut down Visual Studio, clean all output folders as outlined above and re-open the solution.

I think it's happend after installing Internet Explorer 8, but I'm not sure.. The base form is in the application, and I would like the derived form to also be in the application.
